The ICC on Wednesday announced the nominees for the player of the Month Award for the month of June. The India women’s duos of Sneh Rana & Shafali Verma along with England’s Sophie Ecclestone are shortlisted women’s players for the June ‘Player of the Month’ award. While Devon Conway, Quinton De Kock & Kyle Jameison are shortlisted men’s players for the June player of the month award.
The ICC Player of the Month award was introduced in January earlier this year to recognize the best international performances across both men’s & women’s cricket. The ICC Voting Academy & fans from across the globe will vote to decide the winners of the June Player of the Month Award. The winners of the ‘Player of the Month’ Award will be announced on July 12.
Openers Devon Conway hits a double century on his test debut at Lord’s to grab 77th position in the ICC Men’s Player Rankings by scoring 447 rating points. He accelerated his rating points by scoring two half-centuries in the next two tets matches, including the WTC finals to amass 379 test runs at an average of 63.16. The other nominee on the list is Kyle Jamieson who was awarded the Player of the Match award for his spell bounding bowling performance in the WTC Final where he returned with figures of 7/61. Jamieson has played two tests in June finishing with figures of 10 wickets at an average of 17.40.
Last but not the least, De Kock is the third & the final nominee on the men’s list. He was also awarded player of the series against West Indies after amassing unbeaten 141 runs in the first test & 96 in the second test in total 237 runs at an average of 118.50. In three T20Is against West Indies, Quinton de Kock has scored 135 runs at a strike rate of 142.10.
Sophie Ecclestone of England is one of the nominees on the Women’s list. He finished the one-off match against India with eight wickets for 206 at an average of 25.75. She also scalped six wickets in the ODI series against India at an average of 12.16 & at an economy rate of 3.65. The second nominee in the women’s list is India’s Sbeh Rana who scored unbeaten 80 off 154 balls in the one-off test & helped India to seal a hard-fought draw against England.
The third & final nominee in the women’s list is India’s opener Shafali Verma who made a stunning debut against England in the one-off Test. She was also awarded as the “Player of the Match” for displaying a stupendous performance in her Test debut against England. Young Shafali becomes the first Indian to score half-centuries in both the innings of her test debut. She scored 96 & 63 runs in both innings of the one-off Test. Her first innings 96 runs knock is the highest by any Indian woman on debut. She didn’t stop there as she aggregated 59 runs in both the ODIs against England at a strike rate of 85.50.
