IPL 2022: The final match of the tournament will begin at 8pm IST

The final clash of the IPL 2022 will begin at 8 pm IST due to an additional cultural closing ceremony lined up on the final day. The final clash of the IPL 2022 will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad on May 29.

As per the reports from the BCCI & IPL authorities, the closing ceremony involving Bollywood personalities is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM IST and will run for a duration of 50 minutes. The toss will be held at 7:30 PM IST and the match will start 30 minutes later.

The news came just a day after Cricbuzz reported that the BCCI’s preferred timing for IPL’s evening matches is 8 pm while afternoon matches is 4 pm. The board is planning to execute the new timings from next year.

Initially, during the first 10 editions of the league, the matches used to start at 4 pm and 8 pm. However, following the request of Star Sports (the broadcasters), the timings were changed. For the last five years, the matches start at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm

The opening & closing ceremonies involving Bollywood Stars were regular features of the IPL matches in its first decade. However, it was discontinued under the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) regime for three years. The current exemption followed the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order for the first two years of its issuance.

Even this year there was no opening ceremony conducted on March 26 when the IPL 2022 commenced. The decision of conducting a closing ceremony was taken later at an Apex Council Meeting with a view of celebrating the 15th year of the cash-rich league.

“Since this is the final, the Board wanted to celebrate the 15th year of the tournament through a closing ceremony,” the BCCI official said to the media.

The IPL 2022 has reached the business end of the competition with the league stage set to end this Sunday, May 22. The four-match Playoffs are slated to be played in Kolkata and Ahmedabad with the former hosting the Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator on May 24 and 25 and the last two games in Ahmedabad.
