IPL 2023: Brad Haddin, Charl Langeveldt joins Punjab Kings Coaching Staff

Punjab Kings on Thursday made two more recruitment to their coaching staff by recruiting Brad Haddin & Charl Langeveldt to their set-up. The duo will join chief Coach Trevor Bayliss in the Punjab Kings support staff ahead of the IPL 2023. Earlier on Wednesday, the franchise announced the signing of Shikhar Dhawan as their new Captain.

Former Australia wicket-keeper Haddin will perform the dual role of fielding as well as assistant coach while South African Langeveldt will serve as Punjab Kings bowling coach. He has played six Tests, 72 ODIs & nine T20Is as a part of the South African line-up.

Punjab Kings have revamped their coaching staff by replacing Jhonty Rhodes & other coaches who were a part of Anil Kumble’s coaching staff. The only official who has retained his position in the coaching staff is Andrew Leipus who will continue to serve as Kings Physiotherapist. The changes in the Punjab Kings leadership & coaching panel have been done with the suggestion of new head coach Trevor Bayliss. He was also a part of the franchise’s board meeting which was held on Wednesday.

IPL 2023: Ness Wadia opens up on the changes in Punjab Kings Set-up

Speaking about the changes in leadership role & coaching staff the co-owner of Punjab Kings frnachise, Ness Wadia said, “The board and the head coach have felt that it is time for a change of direction and leadership and Shikhar being the national captain (of the ODI team), it was felt that he is the right man to lead the team in the coming season. We are confident under him and Trevor, the team will make the last four.”

Earlier speculations were doing rounds on social media that apart from Mayank Agarwal who returned with low scores in IPL 2022, Shahrukh Khan could be released from the set-up. For the unversed, Tamil Nadu State team’s stalwart, Shahrukh Khan could only chip in with 117 runs in eight fixtures. His services were bought for Rs 9 crores in the 2022 auction. However, Wadia stressed that no such decision has been taken by the franchise. Meanwhile, the IPL 2023 is expected to begin in the March-April window.
