More than 20,000 coronavirus tests will be carried out during the IPL 2020 said 20-20 tournament’s medical partner on Thursday.
The cash rich league will commence on September 19 & will be held in the UAE this year due to rising coronavirus cases. Around 200 players from the eight franchises arrived last month in UAE & has spent six days in isolation in their hotel rooms. They were tested for coronavirus immediately on their arrival to UAE & then again were tested two days later. After a final test they were moved into a secure “bio-bubble”.
The same set of rules were applied for support staff, match umpires, officials from organizers the Board of Control for Cricket in India and others. VPS healthcare the IPL’s Abu Dhabi based Official Medical Partner said on Wednesday that 3500 tests have been conducted so far & many more are lined up to be conducted.
“During the course of the tournament, we will be conducting over 20,000 tests,” a spokesman told AFP.
“The movement of the players and other officials of the IPL are strictly restricted between the hotel and the stadium,” the spokesman said.
The tournament will kick-start with the first opening clash between CSK & Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi. In total 24 matches will be played in Dubai, 20 in Abu Dhabi & 12 in Sharjah.
