The ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic has affected not only the day to day activities of the people but also resulted in cancellation or postponement of major sporting events across the globe. Due to the extension of the ongoing lockdown the IPL league has been postponed till further notice. But VVS laxman has a suggestion to conduct IPL league before the T20 World Cup. This suggestion was first given by the former England Captain Michael Vaughan who said that there are the chances of conducting IPL league and the T20 World Cup back to back.
The BCCI has suspended the 13th edition of the IPL 2020 until further notice and update about the current situation from the Government due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 in India which resulted in the extended tenure of the ongoing lockdown. As per the reports from BCCI, the franchise holders have been informed about the decision. However former Indian batsman VVS Laxman believes the IPL tournament could be held just before the T20 World Cup and it would serve as a preparation session for all the players.
Talking to a leading media channel, VVS Laxman said, “I think that most of the cricket boards knows that the IPL is a big tournament and everyone acknowledges this fact. And conducting the IPL league just before the World CUP will set a tone for a hectic cricket season. But before thinking about all this it’s very important that the situation gets back to normalcy and no one is in danger. I hope that this COVID-19 gets over soon and once it happens then I am sure that the IPL league should kick off the cricket calendar”.
Let’s hope that the predictions of the cricketers come true and the current situation gets back to normalcy so that we commence the entertaining IPL league in open stadiums with full safety of the players as well as the spectators.
