IRE vs IND 2nd T20I: India registers a narrow four-run win to sweep the series by 2-0

IRE vs IND 2nd T20I: The final T20I of the IRE vs IND T20I series was no less than a roller coaster ride as the match took unexpected twists & turns. Hosts were on the track of a glorious win but it was visitors who had the last laugh by restricting Ireland to 221 runs chasing a target of 225 runs to register a narrow four runs win.

The match unfolded with India batting first. With the bat, India was successful in posting a massive 225 runs total on board. India started their innings on a high note by stitching a record-breaking 176-run second-wicket stand between Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda. The duo got the better of Irish bowlers as they smashed the ball across the park.

Though Samson fell after scoring 77 runs off 42 balls with nine fours & four sixes, Hooda headed strong & went on to score his first ton in T20Is as he finished after scoring 104 runs off 57 balls with nine fours & six sixes. In this process, Hooda became the fourth Indian to register a ton in T20Is. However, after that India suffered a mini-collapse as they lost four wickets within 28 runs.

As a result, in the end, India wrapped up their innings on 225 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. Fore Ireland, the most successful bowler was Mark Adair (3-2).

In reply, Ireland got off to a good start as Captain Andy Balbirnie & Paul Stirling put on 72 runs for the opening wicket. Stirling was sent packing after scoring 40 runs off 18 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. However, Balbirnie carried forward their innings by smashing 60 runs off 37 balls with three boundaries and seven sixes. After Balbirnie other batters too contributed with crucial runs by stitching meaningful stands throughout their innings. Harry Tector (39 off 28 balls), George Dockrell (34*), and Adair (23*) all delivered with the bat but failed to chase the target in front of India’s restricted bowling attack. In the end, Ireland finished on 221 for five in their 20 overs.
