Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022 with Back Injury

It’s confirmed! Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a back injury. Initially, the news of Bumrah’s injury broke ahead of the beginning of the IND vs SA T20I series on Wednesday. After getting the information about Bumrah’s injury the BCCI immediately transferred him from Thiruvananthapuram to NCA Bengaluru for further assessment. BCCI’s medical team did the final assessment of the ace pacer’s injury & on Monday BCCI confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will not be able to participate in T20 World Cup 2022. However, the board hasn’t revealed the exact nature of his injury.

As per the reports, Bumrah has sustained a stress-related injury & will be out of action for the next six weeks. Previously too, Jasprit Bumrah missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury. However, he completed his rehabilitation & made a comeback in the Australia T20I series. He played in the second & third T20I against Australia but was ruled out of the South Africa T20I series after complaining of pain in his back.

“Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. BCCI’s Medical Team has assessed him and as per the reports, he is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I,” the BCCI said on Twitter after the toss of the first T20I against South Africa.

Shami or Chahar can come in as Jasprit Bumrah Replacement

Mohammed Shami & Deepak Chahar who are named as reserve players in the India squad for T20 World Cup 2022 can walk in as Bumrah’s replacement. The spate of injuries continues to haunt the Indian team as Bumrah is the second player who has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022. Earlier Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the marquee event due to a knee injury.

India is placed in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage along with Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, & two teams that will qualify from the first round. India will begin their World Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan at the MCG on October 23.

India T20 World Cup squad:

KL Rahul (vice-capt), Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma (capt), Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Axar Patel,  Arshdeep Singh.

 Reserve players: Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar.
