West Indies fast bowler, Kemar Roach will return back to action for Surrey in County Championship. He will feature in the first six matches of the Championship 2023. Roach will feature for the club for the third season after having successful stints in the 2021 & 2022 seasons. In total for Surrey, he has taken 47 wickets at a 23.57 average, including best figures of 8 for 40 against Hampshire in 2021.
Twenty-five wickets out of 47 have been taken in seven matches in County Championship 2021, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings against Warwickshire at the Kia Oval in July 2021 to register a six-wicket win.
Roach who became the sixth West Indies cricketer to reach the 250 Test wicket mark in 2021 will join the squad ahead of Surrey’s first match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford. His first fixture at the Oval will be against Hampshire which will be played from April 13 to 16.
Kemar Roach will be available for Surrey’s tour of Edgbaston & Chelmsford before ending his spell with two home teams against Middlesex (11-14 May) & Kent (18-21 May). “I enjoy playing for Surrey & winning the title for them was the incredible part of being a part of Surrey,” Roach said. He further said that the team has an excited group of players & he can’t wait to hit the field for Surrey & represent the club.
Surrey’s Head Coach Gareth Batty said that they are looking to welcome Kemar back to Surrey club. He said that he is a player of great caliber & will add versatility to the squad. He further said that Kemar has proved what he can do for the club & they are happy that Roach is returning back to the lineup & would surely set the field on fire.
