Kenya announces inaugural edition of Africa T-10 League

Kenya Cricket has announced that it is set to host the first edition of a T10 League in Africa named The rising popularity and success of the shortest format of the game have instigated the underdog nation to host the Africa T10 League for the first time.

Kenya has been highly underperforming in international cricket for a decade. By organizing the heavyweight championship, Kenya will aim to regain their lost prestige. The Kenya Cricket Board confirmed that they will host the tournament in June 2023.

Africa T10 League will feature some renowned names of World Cricket

The African T-10 League will comprise a total of six teams who will battle it out in 34 matches in order to lift the prestigious trophy. Interestingly, Kenya is aiming to include a majority of overseas players who shall boost the viewership by ensuring their participation.

According to the initial draft, the African T-10 League franchises will play with one associate nation player, two Kenyan players, two African players, and seven overseas global players in the eleven. It will be interesting to find out the participation of veteran global cricketers who will likely feature in the league.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s deteriorating imprint in global cricket is also a major concern that will be aligned with the success of the tournament. Kenya has been regularly out of the qualification rounds for major ICC Events such as the T20 or the ODI World Cup.

Kenya had their golden era from 2000-2010. They stormed into the semifinals of the ICC World Cup in 2003. They had also defeated stronger and more resilient sides such as Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand during their stint at the T-20 and the ODI World Cup in 2007.

Addressing the media, Kenya Cricket Chief Manoj Patel stated that he is simply delighted to host the championship and will truly exploit the opportunity to provide great hospitality to overseas athletes. Ali Akbar Khan of Pacific Star Sports, the official partner of the league also expressed his enthusiasm to host the championship with a stunning level of management.
