ACB appoints Jonathan Trott as Afghanistan's Head Coach

ACB on Friday appointed former England batter Jonathan Trott as the head coach of the National team with immediate effect. Jonathan will take up his duties of Head Coach with Afghanistan’s tour of Ireland in August.

Initially, the position of Head Coach was going to be handled by Trott’s Compatriot Graham Cooch. But due to the diagnosis of a serious illness in May this year, Cooch couldn’t take up the post with Jonathan coming in as his successor.

Trott has worked with England’s senior batting unit on their South Africa tour back in 2020 along with England’s white & red ball tour of India in 2021. He has also worked with England & U-19 teams as batting coach & mentor as well as batting consultant for Scotland during the T20 World Cup 2021.

Speaking about his appointment Jonathan said, “I am honored & excited to have the opportunity to take one of International Cricket’s most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team”, Trott said on Friday.

“ I cannot wait to get to work with a group of players who are clearly capable of generating results in a style that will make the people of Afghanistan proud”, Trott added to his statement.
