Ashes 2021-2022: ECB named 12 man squad for Pink Ball test in Adelaide

Ashes 2021-2022: ECB named 12 man squad for Pink Ball test in Adelaide

Ashes 2021-2022: England on Wednesday announced a 12 man squad for their day & night Adelaide test. James Anderson, Stuart Broad & Jack Leach secured a place in the selected 12 man squad. The major highlight of the announced squad is that Jack Leach who conceded 102 runs in 13 overs has found a place in the selected squad while Mark Wood who has scalped three wickets after spending 85 runs in 25.3 overs in the first innings of the first Test, has been left out.

An official release from the ECB has said that the playing XI will be confirmed at the time of toss on Thursday. After facing a humiliating defeat in the first test ECB was questioned for its decision of excluding their star pacers  James Anderson and Stuart Broad from the squad. After much discussion, James Anderson & Stuart Broad have been included in England’s squad for the Adelaide Test.

Stuart Broad has been waiting to play his 150th test & had openly expressed his disappointment on being left out from the first test. England will anyhow face a selection dilemma on Thursday as if they want to play Anderson and Broad together, then one between Ollie Robinson and Chris Woakes will have to be left out.

Jack Leach could be selected as a specialist spinner despite poor performance in the first test as the Adelaide pitch curator has suggested that the pitch is expected to have help for the spinner as always.

“Yeah, I think so. History says that the pitch will spin. Nathan’s (Lyon) always played a role out there. From our end, we believe that spin at Adelaide needs to play a part. We feel that it has previously, and it still should,” Damian Hough has said.

Joe Root had also backed Leach despite him getting hammered pole to post in the first Test.

“I’m sure he’ll want to respond and he’ll want to get back into the series and have an impact.

“Some of the grounds that we will be going to from this point onwards should offer a lot more for him and bring spin into it as well,” the England skipper had told reporters.

After winning the first Test by 9 wickets, Australia is leading the Ashes 2021-2022 series by a 1-0 score.
