BAN vs PAK 2nd Test: Saif Hasan ruled out of the second test confirms BCB

BAN vs PAK 2nd Test: The BCB on Wednesday confirms that Bangaldesh opener Saif Hasan has been ruled out of the second test against Pakistan due to Typhoid.

”Saif underwent laboratory tests based on symptoms and reports have confirmed that he has typhoid germs in his body. The batsman is receiving treatment and will continue his recovery under the supervision of the BCB medical team,” BCB said in a statement on Wednesday.

Saif wasn’t able to contribute with the bat in the opening test at Chattogram due to which team management has included uncapped player Naim Shaikh in Bangladesh’s squad for the secodn test which is scheduled to be played in Dhaka from December 4.

However, the addition of opener Naim Shaikh raised a few eyebrows as he last played a test match back in February 2020. Naim who is a regular face in white-ball cricket & has played just six games in first-class cricket was not considered for red-ball cricket since he made his T20 debut.

However, Bangladesh fielding coach Mizanur Rahman has hinted that Naim is not the first choice for replacing Saif at the top order. He believes that debutant Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who scored heavily in the just-concluded first-class season, is the top candidate to partner Shadman Islam.

”I am not sure who will open but from what I understand, Shadman Islam is the first choice and he really batted well in the national league and probably might get a chance,” Mizanur said on Wednesday.

”Shanto (Nazmul Hossain) batted well in Sri Lanka and probably will bat at three and hopefully, they will handle the new ball better at Dhaka than what they did in the opening day,” he said pointing his finger towards the opening Test that saw the host losing their top-order on both occasions before 20 overs.

Meanwhile, Shakib-Al-Hasan who has been included in the squad for the first test but didn’t feature for the match after failing to recover on time from his hamstring injury is leaving no stones unturned to make himself available. The all-rounder is gearing up for the second test at his very own MASCO – Shakib Cricket Academy from November 25 along with his childhood mentor and afterward began his individual practice at Sher-e-Bangladesh Stadium from November 28.

Not only Shakib but also team management is working hard over the fitness of Shakib-Al-Hasan as he didn’t play much competitive cricket since Bangladesh’s fourth Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup, due to his hamstring injury.
