BBL 12: Rossouw, Wiese, Lange & Plessis nominates for the Overseas Draft

Former South African Captain Faf Du Plessis, Rilee Rossouw, David Wiese & Marchant De Lange are the first batch of nominees announced for the overseas BBL Draft to be held in August. Faf Du Plessis featuring in the nominees’ list means he will be available for at least a portion of the BBL 12.

As per the rules of the BBL, overseas players need to nominate their prize category gold, silver, or bronze, and their availability for the BBL ahead of the draft. Enrolling their name in the draft doesn’t mean they have to be available for the entire tournament, but they must be available for a portion of it. In addition to these three categories, there is one fourth platinum category that will feature players selected by BBL for the top bracket of $AUD340,000 with du Plessis likely to be one of those. However, whether these four players are available for the entire tournament or a portion of it has not been disclosed yet.

The BBL 12 is all set to commence from mid-December until the end of January. Meanwhile, South Africa & UAE are all set to launch their T20 leagues the dates of which are yet to be announced. There are chances that these four players would feature in both of these upcoming leagues.

Talking about Du Plessis BBL stint, he appeared in one game of the BBL back in 2012 for Melbourne Renegades after scoring a ton on his Test debut in Adelaide. He was a part of the Renegades team that featured Aaron Finch and Muthiah Muralidaran facing Shane Warne starer Melbourne Stars.

Rilee Rossouw who has recently received a call-up to the T20I squad after six long years for the England tour was a part of Melbourne Renegades in BBL 2021 where he played seven matches for them. Wiese who had never featured in the BBL is just six games away from playing his 300 T20I. He had played T20Is for both South Africa & Namibia & is a key contributor in guiding Namibia to the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2021. He has been a regular in the PSL, CPL, and the Vitality Blast & has also featured in the Hundred 2021.

De Lange on the other hand hasn’t played any international cricket since 2016 having committed his future to English domestic cricket in 2017. Back in 2014 he played one T20I in Australia but has never featured in the BBL. His recent highlight performance is his four-wicket haul for Somerset in the recently concluded Vitality Blast clash against Essex.
