BBL 2021-22: All-round performance help Hobart Hurricanes beat Brisbane Heat by 8 wickets

An all-around performance with bat and bowl helped Hobart Hurricanes beat Brisbane Heat by 8 wickets in the 41st match of BBL 2021-22 on Saturday at The Gabba, Brisbane. Brisbane Heat batted first but didn’t get off to a great start. They failed to build partnerships. Both the openers, Jake Lehmann (9 off 14) and Jack Clayton (6 off 8) went back for single-digit scores. Lachlan Pfeffer, however, played a vital knock of 69 runs off 51 balls.

He played 6 fours and 3 sixes during his knock but didn’t find any support from the other end. Brisbane Heat kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got no momentum whatsoever. Middle-order comprising of Heazlett (4 off 6), Tom Cooper (1 off 5) and Jack Wood (12 off 13) all got out without making a significant contribution with the bat.

Hobart Hurricanes bowled exceptionally well to restrict Brisbane Heat to just 144 runs in the first innings. Lamichhane (2 for 23) and Mitchell Owen (2 for 25) were the picks of the bowlers. In reply, Hobart Hurricanes lost Caleb Jewell early in the third over of the innings.

However, in-form Ben McDermott continued his fine form with the bat. He played another outstanding knock and brought up his fourth half-century of the season. McDermott brought up 2000 runs in his BBL career.

He scored a match-winning 93-run knock off 61 balls, a knock which was laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Peter Handscomb and Darcy Short remained unbeaten on 27 and 12 respectively and guided their home in just 17.2 overs. With that win, Hobart Hurricanes have reached the fourth position on the points table with 5 wins in 10 matches.

Brisbane Heat, on the other hand, is at fifth position on the BBL 2021-22 points table with 3 wins in 10 matches.

Brief Scores: Hobart Hurricanes 145 for 2 (McDermott 93, Prestwidge 2-37) beat Brisbane Heat 144 for 8 (Pfeffer 69, Lamichhane 2-23) by eight wickets
