Cricket Australia releases Men’s Central Contracts for the year 2022-2023

Cricket Australia on Thursday released Men’s Central Contracts for the year 2022-2023. The list comprises 20 men’s cricketers who have received national contracts based on their consistent swashbuckling performances. Wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis has been awarded his maiden National Contract by Cricket Australia.

Josh Inglis made a comeback in International Cricket back in February, in a T20I against Sri Lanka at the SCG. He has displayed impressive performances in the recent T20I series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan & was also included in Australia’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad as a reserve player. If Inglis continues to display stunning performances he could easily secure a permanent spot in the T20I team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in October.

Other players such as Mitch Marsh, Scott Boland, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Swepson who earned an upgrade in their contracts in 2021-2022, all have retained their national contracts.

Notably, players who missed out from Cricket Australia’s Men’s Central Contracts 2022-2023 list are Marcus Harris, Moises Henriques, Ben McDermott, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Ashton Turner, and Matthew Wade. Pacer James Pattinson was ineligible, having retired from international cricket, & so was former Test Captain Tim Paine who took an indefinite break from all forms of cricket.

“The performances by Mitch Marsh, Usman, Travis, Scott, Marcus, and Mitch Swepson were pivotal in helping secure those successes and we are pleased they have retained their contracts for the upcoming year after being rewarded with upgrades throughout the past season,” said Men’s Chair of National Selectors George Bailey.

“We believe this group provides us great coverage and versatility across all formats while others, as we saw in the past year, will continue to get opportunities to play a big part. With a tour of Sri Lanka, a home World Cup, a home summer, and a tour of India there is an enormous amount of cricket to be played where the strength of our squads and depth will be challenged.

“To contract just 20 players was challenging given the number of key series and the cycle of upcoming T20 and one-day World Cups, all of which will require varying skill sets and combinations.”

What comes as a boost for the players who did receive the contracts is the opportunity to earn upgrades throughout the year accruing 12 upgrade points. Players receive five points for a Test match, two for a One-Day International, and one for a T20 International.

Cricket Australia’s Men’s Central Contracts for 2022-2023:

Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson David Warner, Adam Zampa
