“Important People” are subject to criticism says Ajinkya Rahane

Cricket News: Team India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is sportingly taking all the criticisms regarding his form in the recently played test series. Rahane on Monday said that he is happy to find people talking about him because only “important people” are subject to criticism. He added that he’s focused on contributing to the team’s cause, irrespective of the chaos outside.

Ajinkya Rahane’s form has not been impressive since his match-winning century scored in Australia last year. However, he showed some grit by hitting 146-ball 61 runs in the second innings at Lord’s. It was Rahane’s century stand with Cheteshwar Pujara that helped India to rise up from a poor 55-3 score & ultimately contributed to their historic win.

“I’m happy people are talking about me. I always believe people talk about important people, so I am not too concerned about that. It’s all about contributing to the team and Cheteshwar and I have been playing for a long time, we know how to handle pressure, we know how to bat in certain situations. We are just focussing on the team, we just want to contribute to the team and that’s what we are doing. Whatever we can’t control, we are not thinking about it,” Rahane said in a press conference ahead of the 3rd India-England Test.

When Ajinkya Rahane was asked about his motivational factor he said that he doesn’t require anything special to motivate him & playing for India is his major motivational factor.

“Everything motivates me. Playing for the country motivates me a lot. I am not bothered about criticism as I mentioned. People only criticize important people and I am happy they are criticizing me. I only focus on controllable,” the Mumbaikar added.

Ajinkya Rahane averaged 18.67 in the home series against England soon after the end of the Australian tour & registered scores of 49 & 15 in the WTC final against New Zealand. While Rahane’s 61 runs knock at Lord’s have marked the return of his old spectacular form which has been missing for a while.

Rahane further said that his poor form in recent fixtures might prompt players to consider their method of playing, team’s success always remains the “ultimate goal” for team India. The 3rd Test at Headingley will start at 3:30 PM IST on Wednesday, 25th August.
