Ganguly clears the air on his resignation rumors, will continue as BCCI President

Sourav Ganguly, the former India captain, said he was “surprised” when his “simple tweet” triggered rumors that he might resign as BCCI president on Wednesday. Ganguly said on his official Twitter account last night that he is about to “launch something fresh” that would “benefit a lot of people.”

Sourav Ganguly was elected as the BCCI President in October 2019 and still has four months left in his three-year tenure. However, Ganguly’s recent post caused a stir on social media since it included a thank-you statement to his supporters and “every single individual” who helped him throughout his lengthy cricketing career.

Sourav Ganguly emphasized that his tweet was misconstrued and that it was about his new business endeavor. “I’ve just released a new educational app all across the globe.” It’s an instructional software that’s been released all around the globe.” He claimed, “It was just a basic tweet; there was no mention of resignation, nothing.” Ganguly’s tweet took social media by storm as many, including media outlets, started speculations about his future. But now it’s clear that Ganguly is entering a new business venture as he is planning to launch an educational app.

Before Ganguly’s statement late Wednesday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the former India captain has not quit as BCCI president and that he is “fully focused” on the new chances he has lined up.

“The allegations circulating regarding Mr.Sourav Ganguly resigning as BCCI President are absolutely untrue,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement to PTI.

“We’re approaching some exciting times in terms of media rights, and my colleagues and I are entirely focused on the impending opportunity and defending Indian cricket’s interests,” Shah said.

Meanwhile, with the educational app BYJU’s being the shirt sponsor of the Indian Cricket team, it will be interesting to see whether Ganguly’s new educational app will affect the sponsorship deal with BYJU’s. Sourav Ganguly’s new educational app will feature tutorials in English, Hindi, Bengali, and many other regional languages.
