Hundred 2022: Mark Alleyne joins Welsh Fire as Men's Assistant Coach

Former England and Gloucestershire allrounder Mark Alleyne has joined Welsh Fire as an assistant coach ahead of the Men’s Hundred 2022.

Alleyne, who has played for England in ten one-day internationals and captained Gloucestershire to nine one-day trophies in seven years, has joined Welsh Fire’s men’s coaching squad, which also includes head coach Gary Kirsten and assistants Matt Maynard and Jason Kerr.

Alleyne is an Assistant Director of Sport at Marlborough College and a Test scout for the ECB. During England’s recent tour of the Caribbean, he served as a support coach for the men’s T20I squad.

“I’m delighted to be joining Welsh Fire and have the opportunity to work with Gary Kirsten and his coaching team,” Alleyne said.

“It’s exciting to be able to work closely with elite players and hopefully I can use my experience to add extra value to what they do and help create a winning formula for Welsh Fire.

“Mark was one of the most forward-thinking and progressive players of his generation and is a terrific addition to the Welsh Fire coaching staff,” stated Mark Wallace, Team Manager of Welsh Fire.

“He’s bursting with energy, and knowing Mark, he’ll bring plenty of fresh ideas to the table to help us take Welsh Fire to the next level.”

The Welsh Fire Men’s team ended the inaugural season of the hundred tournament on second last position at the Points table, lagging at the seventh position. They will kick off the Hundred 2022 with the opening clash against the defending champions, Southern Brave on August 3 at the Ageas Bowl.

On August 7, they will host the Oval Invincibles. The women’s team will kick off their season at Sophia Gardens on August 13 in a doubleheader against Birmingham Phoenix. On Friday, August 26th, Welsh Fire will host Northern Superchargers for a double header in their final home game of the season.
