England’s batting sensation Jonny Bairstow, Sri Lanka’s debutant spinning maestro Prabath Jayasuriya and India’s latest pace veteran Renuka Singh have been nominated as the top contenders for the upcoming edition of the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of July.
Also making into the list is France’s teenage batting star Gustav McKeon who is highly accredited for his record-breaking century. England skipper Nat Sciver and Emma Lamb will battle it out against Renuka Singh for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award.
Notably, Jonny Bairstow was rewarded with the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of June and has been successfully renominated owing to his sizzling form in every format. Emma Lamb has also been successfully shortlisted for the consecutive time in July.
Jonny Bairstow continued to shine for England in the red-ball format where he successfully hit a couple of match-winning knocks of 106 and 114 against India in the rescheduled test. Bairstow’s heroics helped England to draw the series by 2-2.
Meanwhile, Prabath Jayasuriya has been prolific for Sri Lanka with his devastating spin. The debutant has grabbed 29 wickets in three matches against Pakistan & Australia. He returned with Jayasuriya’s heroics with the ball making him a deserving candidate for the ICC Player of the Month Award for July.
France’s Gustav McKeon has been thunderous with his performance in the European Qualifiers. He became the first-ever player to register four successive half-centuries in his first four T20Is. McKeon ended up registering two tons against Switzerland (109) & Norway (101). He also became the youngest cricketer to register a ton in T20I cricket & has amassed 377 runs in five T20Is at an average of 75.40 with an impressive strike rate of 164.62
In Women’s cricket, Emma Lamb has once again proved to be England’s match-winner as her remarkable contribution of 214 runs with the bat and 6 wickets with the ball helped England defeat South Africa by 3-0.
Renuka Singh has made her maiden shortlist after a spectacular performance against Sri Lanka. She was the joint highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets in three matches that helped India clinch the series by 2-1. She continued her good run in the Commonwealth Games 2022 as well. In their first CWG 2022 against Australia, Renuka ripped Australia’s top order by scalping four wickets for 18 runs which was unarguably her best performance in the month of July.
The ICC will announce the winners in the next week after independent voting through the ICC Voting Academy and the fan poll.
