India’s opener Mayank Agarwal & New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel have made huge gains in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings update after displaying mind-blowing performances in the secodn test of their ICC WTC 2021-2023 series in Mumbai.
It was Agarwal’s Player of the Match efforts of 152 & 62 that have helped him to progress 30 spots to reach 11th position in the ICC Men’s test Rankings list. Agarwal is just one spot below his career-best 10 positions which he attained in November 2019. Meanwhile, Ajaz Patel who became the third player to fetch 10 wickets in Test innings behind Jim laker & Anil Kumble, has moved up by 23 spots to reach 38th position after scalping 14 wickets in the second test against India. Patel’s previous best ranking was 53rd & he has started the IND vs NZ test series in 62nd position.
Others who have progressed in the latest test rankings updates after the Mumbai test are India’s opener Shubman Gill (moved up 21 places to 45th places) fast bowler Mohammad Siraj (moved up by 41st places) & New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell (moved up by 26 places to 78th position).
Ravichandran Ashwin has reduced the gap with top-ranked bowler Pat Cummins after finishing with a four-wicket haul in each innings in India’s 372 run victory. Ashwin has gained 43 points to reach a total of 883 & is 67 points ahead of third-placed bowler Josh Hazlewood. He has moved one place ahead to the second spot among the all-rounders’ list even as his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja has moved down to the fourth spot in the Rankings list led by West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder.
Jason Holder moved one spot up to reach the 14th position among the bowler’s list that also considers performances from the Galle Test that Sri Lanka won by 164 runs to complete a 2-0 series win & remain on top of the ICC WTC 2021-2022 Points Table.
Kraigg Brathwaite (moved up to 10 places to 39th position) & Nkrumah Bonner (moved up by 17 places to 42nd) are the batters who moved up in the Rankings list but the player who gained the most in the Rankings list after the Galle test is Dhanajaya De Silva who has moved up by 12 spots to 21st after scoring unbeaten 155 in the second innings.
Spinners Lasith Embuldeniya & Ramesh Mendis too have gained in the latest test Rankings list. Sri Lanka’s spinner Embuldeniya has moved up by five slots to reach 32nd position after finishing with a seven-wicket haul in the Galle test while Mendis has moved up by 18 places to 39th position with an 11 wicket haul.
