The ICC on Wednesday has released an updated ICC Test Rankings list. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell & Tom Blundell have achieved career-best Test Rankings of 12 & 20 in the latest update on the back of their swashbuckling performances against England’s squad.
England’s big hitter Jonny Bairstow too moved up by 20 places in the latest ICC Test Rankings list to occupy 21 spots on the batters list following the series of gleaming knocks in the recently ended series which England swept by a 3-0 score. Bairstow registered scores of 136, 162, and 71 not out in consecutive innings across the Trent Bridge and Headingley Tests. He also notched up England’s second-fastest Test hundred, 150, and fifty, respectively.
Mitchell moved up by four spots to occupy the 12th position after registering a scintillating ton in each of three Test matches. He finished the Test series as the highest run-scorer by scoring 538 runs a record aggregate for New Zealand in a three-match Test series. Tom Blundell too rose up by 11 places to occupy 20th position after scoring 383 runs.
The duo were a major threat to England’s winning intentions, scoring 724 runs in partnership which is a record stand for any New Zealand player in a Test series. They were also the first pair to put together four-century stands for New Zealand in one single series.
On the bowling front, England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach also made positive gains & currently occupies the No 25 position on the list. His Player of the match performance of 10 wickets for 166 runs has helped him to move up by 13 places to grab the 25th spot while Broad has moved up by one place to occupy the 13th position in the bowlers’ list.
The latest Rankings update has also taken into consideration the second Test match between West Indies & Bangladesh. West Indies skipper Kraig Brathwaite moved up by one place to 27th after his first-innings half-century while Kyle Mayers ( 22 places to 57th) and John Campbell (four places to 76th) are the others who moved up on the batters’ list for the West Indies, who won the WTC series 2-0.
