IND vs SA 2021: Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the Test series against South Africa due to a left hamstring injury. Opener Priyank Panchal who led India A team during the just ended three-match series has replaced Rohit Sharma in the series. The BCCI is yet to announce the vice-captain for the South Africa tests.
Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring injury during the net practice sessions at the Bandra Kurla Complex. It is still not clear if Rohit will be available for the ODI series for which he was named as the captain as the nature of his injury is serious.
Rohit Sharma has complained of discomfort to the support staff at the practice sessions on Sunday when he spoke about white ball captaincy in an interview with bcci. tv. The nature of Rohit Sharma’s injury came into the limelight when he was taken for tests & scans by the Physios on Monday. Because of his hamstring injury, Rohit Sharma didn’t check in the Mumbai hotel where other players of the Indian touring team are serving a mandatory quarantine period.
Sources have revealed that the BCCI has relaxed all the bio-security protocols for those who are traveling to South Africa with their families & are staying in Mumbai. They have been advised to stay in home quarantine, that’s why Virat Kohli has also not checked in the hotel.
Priyank Panchal enjoys an illustrious career as he has been featured in 100 first-class fixtures amassing 7011 runs at an average of 45.52 & has registered 24 tons in his name. Priyank Panchal has scored 120 runs for India A at an average of 40 in three innings with a high score of 96 against South Africa A.
Priyank Panchal rose to glory during the Ranji Trophy season of 2016-2017 where he topped the run charts by scoring 1310 runs in 17 innings at an average of 87.33. His first-class highest total is unbeaten 314 runs which he scored against Punjab during Ranji 2016-2017 trophy. Those runs were pivotal for Gujarat who clinched their maiden Ranji Trophy title. Following Parthiv Patel’s retirement last year, Panchal took over the Gujarat captaincy.
