IND W vs BAR W: India Women rose to glory as they outclassed Barbados Women to reserve a spot into the CWG 2022 Semi-finals. On the bright sunny day in Edgbaston, India women won the toss & opted to bat first. India’s Captain Harmanpreet Kaur & Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana started the proceedings for India. However, soon they lost a wicket with Smriti Mandhana getting dismissed cheaply. Then came Shafali Verma on the crease who stabilized India’s innings by playing a powering knock of 43 runs off 26 balls.
Soon India suffered a huge setback as the aggressor Shafali Verma was run out of Kycia Knight’s delivery. India was in dire need of a stable stand & Rodrigues & Deepti provided did exactly that. Jemimah Rodrigues played a crucial unbeaten 56 runs knock while Deepti amassed 34 runs off 28 balls to take India over the 160 runs mark.
In reply, Renuka Singh provided India a major breakthrough by dismissing Deandra Dottin for a duck in the first over of the innings. West Indies were trying to recover from an early loss but failed to do so as Renuka struck again to send Hayley Matthews back to the pavilion for 9 runs in 7 balls in the third over of the innings. There was no stopping for Renuka who dismissed Kycia Knight & Aaliyah Alleyne in back-to-back deliveries to reduce Barbados to 20-4 in the powerplay overs. Renuka Singh’s four-wicket haul within the power-play overs rattled Barbados Women’s batting order & leave them struggling for runs.
Renuka’s four-wicket haul dismantled Barbados’s top order & restricted them to score big. Kyshona Knight was the top-scorer for Barbados with 16 while Shakera Selman made 12. In end, Barbados’ innings were wrapped for only 62 runs & suffered a massive 100 runs loss.
With this stunning win, India qualified for Semi-finals which will be played on Saturday. India finished second behind Australia (6 points from 3 matches) in Group A with four points from two wins. They had suffered defeats against Pakistan & Australia in their previous clashes.
