IND W vs PAK W Highlights: A clinical all-round show powers India to an eight wicket-win over Pakistan

IND W vs PAK W Highlights: A scintillating half-century by Smirti Mandhana accompanied by fiery bowling spells by Sneh Rana & Radha Yadav guided India Women to a massive eight-wicket win over Pakistan Women in their second T20I match at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday.

India’s lethal bowling spell kept arch-rivals in Control

Women in Blue failed to grab the opportunity to outclass World Champions Australi Women in their first fixture of CWG 2022. However, they took the lesson from their previous mistakes & bounced back to outclass ‘Women in Green’ in their second fixture of the CWG 2022. Bowling first, India’s destructive bowling spells from Sneh Rana (2-15) & Radha Yadav (2-18) bundled up Pakistan’s innings for a meager 99. Later India on the back of Mandhana’s gleaming fifty finished the chase of 100 runs in style.

The match unfolded with Pakistan winning the toss & opting to bat first on the bright sunny day in Birmingham, London. Pakistan got off to a poor start as their star opener Iram Javed couldn’t stay for long on the crease & was sent back by Meghna Singh for zero in the powerplay over. Captain Bismah Maroof came on the crease to lead India’s innings from the fore-front & smashed all the Indian bowlers to keep Pakistan’s scoreboard ticking. But Sneh Rana had the last laugh as she removed the captain for 17 runs.

On the other hand, opener Muneeba Ali was going strong for Pakistan & was facing India’s fierce bowling attack with great resistance. She scored 32 runs before Sneh Rana struck to dismiss her giving India another major breakthrough. Pakistan batters were trying to hit big shots but Indian women at no point let them score freely.

Pakistan was in dire need of a stable stand & Omaima Sohail & Aliya Riaz exactly did that. The duo joined hands & opened their arms to hit some big shots. They resurrected Pakistan’s innings & were in a good form but soon suffered a setback in the 15th over when Omaima Sohail was dismissed for 10 runs in 13 balls to break their stunning stand.

Fatima Sana joined with Aliya Riaz to keep Pakistan’s hopes alive. But this stand too couldn’t yield results as Aliya Riaz got run out by Meghna Singh after scoring 18 runs off 22 balls. In the end, Pakistan could score just 99 runs in a rain-curtailed match of 18 overs.

For India, Sneha Rahan (2-15) & Radha Yadav (2-18) starred with the ball by scalping two wickets each.

Mandhana- Shafali 50-run stand laid the pillars of India’s Victory

The target of 100 runs was a cakewalk for Indian women as the opening duo of Smriti Mandhana & Shafali Verma laid the foundation of a successful chase. Smriti Mandhana started her innings with a flurry of boundaries. Shafali on the other end too didn’t leave any chance of hitting a big shot & got the better of Pakistani bowlers. The duo soon brought up 50 run-stand in 29 balls. Pakistan’s bowling attack looked toothless in front of mighty Indian batters.

Soon spinner Tuba Hassan gave Pakistan their much-needed breakthrough by removing Shafafli Verma for 16 runs off 9 balls. Sabbhineni Meghana was the next batter to come on the crease. The du of Meghana & Mandhana kept dealing in boundaries. Soon their perfect stand came to an end with Meghana getting dismissed for 14 runs off six balls by Omaima Sohail. Her dismissal doesn’t affect Mandhana on the other end who brought up her fifty in 31 balls. In the end, India finished the chase in just 11.4 overs with Mandhana & Rodrigues staying unbetaten at the crease.

IND W vs PAK W Highlights: Mandhana stayed unbetaten at 63 while Rodrigues stayed unbetaten at 2. For Pakistan Omaima Sohail & Tuba Hassan were the pick of the bowlers scalping a wicket each.
