IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals signs Ben Dwarshuis as Chris Woakes' replacement

Delhi Capitals have roped in Australian seamer Ben Dwarshuis as a replacement for England’s all-rounder Chris Woakes for the 2nd leg of the IPL 2021.

Delhi Capitals took to their Official twitter handle to announce the news of the franchise signing in Ben Dwarshuis as Chris Woakes replacement who pulled out of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 earlier this week.

”JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals today announced that English all-rounder Chris Woakes, who picked up 5 wickets in 3 matches in the first half of the VIVO IPL 2021, has pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons”, announced Delhi Capitals in its Official Statement.

“The Delhi Capitals have announced Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes’ replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season. Dwarshuis has scalped 100 wickets in 82 T20 matches at an average of 23.73”.

“The 27-year-old, who plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, and is the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament with 85 wickets in 69 matches. Dwarshuis will be joining the Delhi Capitals team bio-bubble in the UAE soon”, the franchise added in its statement.

Chris Woakes is one of the three England Cricketers along Jonny Bairstow (SRH) & Dawid Malan (PBKS) to pull out of the IPL 2021 few days ago. The reason behind their decision to opt out of the IPL 2021 is bubble fatigue & the reluctance towards a mandatory six days quarantine upon landing in the UAE.

Ben Dwarshuis was bought by Punjab Kings in the 2018 mega Auction

Ben Dwarshuis was earlier bought by the Punjab Kings in the 2018 mega auction but he didn’t get an opportunity to take the field during the IPL 2018. He has also earned a maiden call-up to the Australian team for the Trans-Tasman T20I series in early 2018.

Shedding light on Dwarshuis career, he has played 82 T20 matches & has scalped 100 wickets at an average of 23.72. He is a crucial part of the bowling attack of Sydney Sixers franchise in the Big Bash league. Ben Dwarshuis is also the sixth highest wicket-taker in the history of Big Bash league by scalping 85 wickets in 69 matches that he has played.
