IPL 2021 Final, CSK vs KKR: The entire season of the IPL 2021 was full of twists & turns but the summit clash didn’t witness much drama. CSK quite easily defeated KKR by 27 runs to lift the glitzy Ipl trophy for the fourth time. The game was in CSK control as KKR was outclassed in all three departments of the game. KKR failed to keep up its winning spirit in the summit clash & got out of the title run abruptly.

The game began with KKR winning the toss & electing to bowl first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. CSK’s openers practiced attacking batting & continued their run-scoring stint.  While Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for 32, Faf du Plessis went on to score 86 runs.

Robin Uthappa & Moeen Ali’s quick cameos guided CSK to a respectable total of 192/3 in just 20 overs. Chasing a huge total, KKR got off to a stunning start with Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer adding 91 runs for the first wicket. However, KKR’s middle order failed to rise up & this changed the momentum of the game. As a result, KKR could only manage to put up 165/9, losing the contest by 27 runs.

  1. CSK becomes the second team to win an IPL title maximum times, i.e. four times while MI is the first team to win a IPL titel for maximum number of times, i.e. five times.
  2. IPL 2021 final clash was MS Dhoni’s 300th game, which is the most number of T20 matches played by a captain.
  3. MS Dhoni has taken his T20 title wins tally as a captain to seven. This includes four IPL titles, two CLT20 titles, and one T20 World Cup title.
  4. Ruturaj Gaikwad became the fifth Indian player to win the orange cap. Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, KL Rahul, and Robin Uthappa are the other four.
  5. Gaikwad became the third CSK player after Michael Hussey and Matthew Hayden to win the orange cap.
  6. This is the first time that Faf du Plessis scored over 600 runs in an IPL season.
  7. Faf du Plessis became the first South African player to complete 100 matches in the Indian Premier League.

  10. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis added 756 runs in partnership in IPL which is the third-most by a pair in an IPL season.
  11. Shardul Thakur became the only player to concede over 500 runs in IPL 2021.
  12. This is the first instance of two players from the same team being in the list of the top two run-scorers in a single IPL season, i.e. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis.
  13. This is also the third time when two players from a single team has scored over 600 runs in an IPL season.
  14. Faf Du Plessis smashed six scores of 50+ in IPL 2021, joint-most by a CSK batter in a season. Michael Hussey had also registered as many half centuries in the 2013 edition.
  15. Dwayne Bravo (167) now is the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. While he overtook Amit Mishra to get the feat, Lasith Malinga (170) holds the top position.
  16. CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad became the youngest player to win the Orange Cap in an IPL season. He ended the IPL 2021 season as the highest run-getter with 635 runs under his belt. His highest score being 101* this season.
  17. Ruturaj Gaikwad has hit the most sixes for CSK in IPL 2021: 23.
  18. KKR skipper Eoin Morgan has returned the third worst average in an IPL season (10+ innings). The list includes: 7. 73- Nicholas Pooran (2021), 10.29- Deepak Hooda (2016), 11.08- Eoin Morgan (2021*), 11.20- Praveen Kumar (2008), 11.27- Venu Gopal Rao (2009).
  19. Most partnerships runs in a season: 1. 939 Virat Kohli- AB de Villiers (2016); 2. 791 David Warner – Jonny Bairstow (2019); 3. 756 R Gaikwad – Faf de Plessis (2021*); 4. 744 Shikhar Dhawan – Prithvi Shaw (2021); 5. 731 Shikhar Dhawan- D Warner (2016).
  20. CSK and Mumbai Indians are the only two teams which have won an IPL trophy in both the UAE and India.
