IPL 2021, Match 53, CSK vs PBKS: CSK will take on PBKS in match 53 of the IPL 2021 on Thursday, October 07, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. This will be the first clash of a rare weekday doubleheader with KKR coming into a face-off with Rajasthan Royals in the second match of the doubleheader.
Both the teams come into this match on the back of defeats to Delhi Capitals & RCB respectively. CSK’s successive defeats have put their chance to qualify in the top two teams at risk while PBKS’ loss to RCB has knocked them out of the tournament.
In CSK’s previous clash against DC, the table-toppers sealed a thunderous three wickets win over CSK. The batters of the ‘Yellove Army’ couldn’t step up with the bat except for Ambati Rayudu who led the fight against DC by registering a half-century to guide DC to 136/5. CSK were reeling at 88/4 after 14 overs but Ambati Rayudu’s heroics with the bat in the death overs helped CSK to post 136 runs in 20 overs.
After being sent in to bat first, CSK failed to cope up with the pressure as their ideal opening partnership of Plessis-Gaikwad was broken early. MS Dhoni came in to bat in the ninth over to join Rayudu & the duo remained on the crease till the 20th over. However, the slow wicket made it tough to get runs, and CSK could only get to 136/5 in 20 overs.
However, CSK displayed an excellent bowling performance to bounce back & seal their place in the top two. But then things went out of CSK’s control after a dropped catch of Shimron Hetmyer in the 18th over which proved costly for CSK as DC got over the line in the last over with Kagiso Rabada hitting a match-winning boundary.
However, CSK added more power to their line-up by signing Dominic Drakes for the remaining clashes as Sam Curran’s replacement. With the addition of prolific all-rounder in their line-up, CSK will eye a win in today’s clash against PBKS to confirm their place in the top two teams of the IPL 2021.
On the other hand, PBKS being placed at the seventh spot in the Points Table is already out of the race for playoffs & will play today’s match just to save their pride. In their previous clash against RCB, Virat Kohli & Co defeated PBKS by six runs to secure the third spot in the playoffs. Virat Kohli & Devdutt Padikkal played some stellar shots in the powerplay overs to guide RCB to a competitive total of 164/7.
PBKS chase started at a good pace with KL Rahul & Mayank Agarwal attacking bowlers from the forefront. However, just after the fall of the first wicket, PBKS innings momentum gradually went down. PBKS middle order couldn’t step up & deliver for the team & RCB easily dominated PBKS. While Shahrukh Khan & Aiden Markram did play some big shots in the end overs but PBKS were restricted to 158/6 losing the match by six runs.
As PBKS are already out of the Playoffs race, they don’t have anything at stake & will aim to end today’s clash at winning terms to save their pride. On the other hand, CSK is marching into today’s clash with a strong team, eyeing a stunning win in today’s clash to grab a spot in the top two teams.
One team playing for pride & another playing for grabbing a spot in the top two teams, fans can expect a cracking contest today on the grounds of Dubai.
