IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant to continue as Delhi Capitals Skipper in the UAE Leg

Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will continue as Delhi Capitals Captain for the second leg of the IPL 2021. Rishabh Pant led the Delhi Capitals squad in the first half of the IPL 2021 after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the IPL 2021 due to the shoulder injury he suffered during the limited-overs series against England at home.

However, Shreyas Iyer is completely fit now & fans are thinking about whether he will lead the team or if Rishabh Pant would continue his stint as a captain. According to the sources, Rishabh Pant will lead the franchise in the UAE leg of IPL 2021 as well.

“While it is great news that Shreyas Iyer is fit again and ready to get back to action, it is understood that the DC management wants to give him more time to recover. As a result, Pant will continue as captain, but only for the second half of IPL 2021”, a source quoted as saying to media.

Under Rishabh Pant’s leadership, Delhi capitals ended the first leg of the IPL 2021 at the top of the Points Table by winning six out of eight matches. Delhi Capitals squad have already reached the UAE a few days back & have begun their preparation for the second leg of the IPL 2021 after completing the quarantine period.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer has fully recovered from his shoulder injury & is raring to take the cricket field. Shreyas shared his experience of dealing with the shoulder injury with the media & said, “Currently, I am feeling amazing, the journey was awesome, to be honest. I never hesitated for a while but right after the injury, I was sulking a bit and I didn’t know exactly what to do. I went into the dressing room and cried and it took me a while to digest it but yeah, at the end of the day, you need to go through all of it.”

“It’s a setback and you just have to push and come back strong. When I realized, I had to go under the knife, it was pretty hard to digest. The way I was training prior to the injury, I was at the highest level, at the peak and suddenly this freak injury happened,” he added.

Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, the Delhi Capitals squad has touched the realm of success in the IPL. They have also made it to the playoffs for the first time in seven years in 2019. Last season, they finished runners-up, locking horns with Mumbai Indians in the final.
