The much-awaited IPL 2022 Auction is all set to be held in the first week of February next year as per the reports of cricket.com. With the addition of two new teams, the Auction is likely to be a two days affair like the 2018 IPL auction. Although the host city hasn’t been confirmed yet. According to reports either Bangalore or Hyderabad could host the auction.
Earlier the IPL 2022 Auction was going to be held in the last week of December or the first week of January 2022. However, the awaited clearance of the Ahemdabad franchisee rights by the BCCI has led to the delay in the commencement of the IPL 2022 Auction.
The American-based equity & investment advisory firm CVC Capitals was the second-highest bidder in the BCCI’s tender for the two new teams & was successful in acquiring Ahmedabad franchise rights for Rs 5625 crores. However, the BCCI is yet to hand over CVC Sports the Ahmedabad franchise rights owing to the claims of their alleged links to betting companies. According to the reports, the BCCI will give CVC sports the formal clearance letter by next month.
This will be the first time in the period of three years that the IPL auction will take place for two days. The 2018 event saw 578 players go under the hammer. A much bigger number is expected this time around.
IPL 2022 Auction: Lucknow team has signed Andy Flower as their Head Coach
Last week, one of the two new IPL teams, Lucknow has signed Andy Flower as their Head Coach. The franchise made an official announcement after getting permission from the BCCI which had earlier restricted the new franchise from making any declarations.
The owner of the Lucknow IPL team, Sanjiv Goenka said, “As a player and a coach Andy has left an indelible mark in the history of cricket. We respect his professionalism and hope he will work with our vision and add value to our team.”
Both the new teams of the IPL, Lucknow & Ahmedabad were given time until December 25 to sign a maximum of three players. However, due to the prohibition on the signing of players, their deadline will get extended once there is clarity over the second new team.
The IPL 2022 is expected to commence on April 2, giving the franchises just about two months to set things running.
