IPL 2022: Pat Cummins leaves the Tournament early due to a Hip Injury

IPL 2022: There comes a major setback for the KKR squad as their star all-rounder Pat Cummins has left KKR’s bio-bubble & returned back to Australia due to a hip injury. As per the reports, Pat Cummins has returned back to Sydney to start his rehabilitation process from what is deemed as a minor hip injury so that he could get fit on time for the Australia tour of Sri Lanka starting on June 7.

Pat Cummins has already been rested from the T20I leg of the Sri Lanka tour & is expected to get fit on time for the crucial three-match test series starting from June 29. Being Australia’s Test team captain he is likely to play a crucial role in Australia’s Test series against Sri Lanka & other lined-up assignments such as a five-Test home summer, a Test tour of India, and an Ashes campaign in England.

Pat Cummins has played five matches for KKR in the IPL 2022 & was successful in notching some match-winning performances for his team. He scored the joint-fastest fifty in the tournament’s history followed by seven wickets including 3 for 22 in his last game against Mumbai Indians. After starting their tournament on a winning note, KKR suffered a major jolt by losing five matches at a trot. They are currently reeling at the seventh position on the Points Table with 10 Points in their Kitty. KKR will have to win their remaining clashes with a big margin to qualify for the Playoffs stage.

However, even after winning their remaining two matches, they will have a maximum of 14 points in their kitty which is far from the qualifying criteria of 18 points. Looking at KKR’s fewer chances to qualify for the Playoffs stage & Australia’s tight schedule in place, Cummins has decided to step back & get fit for his international commitments.

Pat Cummins marched into the IPL 2022 on the back of a highly successful multi-format tour of Pakistan where Pat Cummins  5 for 56 and 3 for 23 in Lahore were instrumental in Australia winning the Test series 1-0. He also led Australia to a resounding Ashes 2021-2022 series win by 4-1 by scalping 21 wickets across four test matches. Notably, Ashes 2021-2022 marked Cummins’s first assignment as Australia’s test Captain.

Meanwhile, KKR are slated to play two fixtures rounding off their league phase of the IPL 2022. KKR will next lock horns with SRH in Match 61 of the IPL 2022 on May 14th followed by their last league stage fixture against LSG on May 18 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai.
