The winner of the IPL 2022 will get Rs 20 Crores as prize money. The finals of the IPL 2022 will be played in Ahmedabad at Narendra Modi stadium. There have been talks of increasing the amount for the winning price as the number of franchises in the tournament have increased.
In 2016, the prize money was 15 crores. But it was changed again in IPL 2018 where the prize money was 20 crores. Although due to pandemic and other challenges, in the IPL 2020 the winning price was reduced to just 10 crore rupees.
The BCCI has earned a lot from the addition of two new franchises. The Lucknow-based franchise got the highest bid for rupees 7090 crores. Whereas the Gujarat-based franchise was bought for rupees 5625 crores. BCCI also earns more than 1000 crores from sponsorship rights.
Also, the main boon to BCCI would be the selling rights of media which will be done in coming June.BCCI is expecting at least 30,000 crores which will be a very big amount considering the winning price of the tournament. Probably the BCCI will increase the winning price by 20 to 25 percent from next season.
We are aware that the prize money has not increased in recent years.” However, you must also account for the Covid and the associated cost increase. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to revise it for the next edition,” said a BCCI official.
IPL 2022 prize money is divided as the winner will get 20 crores. Whereas the runner-up, third place and fourth place will get 13, 7 and 6.5 crores respectively.
The franchisees do not depend on the prize money as they get a big chunk of money from TV rights. But still, 20 crores given by BCCI is the highest amount paid in any cricket league across the world.
