Things are not going well between David Warner & SRH since the IPL 2021 & amid growing chaos between the two, the Australian opener was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

David Warner who had been removed from SRH’s captaincy in mid of the IPL 2021 was also dropped from the team during the second half of the IPL 2021 & has not been retained in the retention process.

Due to this David Warner issue, SRH has been criticized for their poor handling of a player who was once the face of the franchise who has performed brilliantly in all seasons but failed to deliver in one & notably who has led the franchise to their maiden IPL title in 2016.

However former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan came in support of the SRH franchise. The former India cricketer took to social media to defend the franchise by saying that they stood by Warner when even his own country had banned him from playing cricket.

Irfan Pathan wrote, “Ppl who are questioning a franchise decision about a foreign player should also remember that the same franchise supported him when his own country banned him to play!”

In 2018, David Warner was retained by SRH despite being handed a 2-month ban from playing cricket by Cricket Australia for the ball-tampering scandal in the Test series against South Africa. After the ball-tampering scandal Warner stepped down from captaincy but SRH still wanted him in their team. However, the IPL decided that Australia’s opener will not be allowed to play in the 2018 season of the IPL After the completion of his ban tenure Warner returned to play in IPL 2019 & 2022 & was also regained captaincy of the SRH squad.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction, the SRH squad has retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik. After the retention list was announced by teh franchise, David Warner took to social media to share a post of himself in teh SRH jersey to bid farewell to the team & its fans.

 “Chapter closed!! Thanks to all of the fans for your support over all the years, it was much appreciated,” Warner wrote.

 David Warner is one of the best batters in the history of IPL. He is the fifth-highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament, and the top-ranked overseas player on that list. While representing SRH Warner has amassed 3519 runs in 95 matches with his stint being embellished with two centuries & 40 half-centuries.
