Kent signs New Zealand's pacer Jacob Duffy on a short term deal

Kent Club has signed New Zealand’s pacer Jacob Duffy on a short-term deal for their remaining County Championship fixtures.

27-year-old, Duffy was a part of New Zealand’s 20-member squad for their ongoing Test series against England. However, he was excluded from the initial 20-member squad ahead of the first Test at Lord’s, having played in both warm-up games.

“Kent Cricket is pleased to announce the signing of right-arm fast-medium bowler Jacob Duffy on a short-term deal,” the county announced in a statement.

His best first-class stats of 7-89 came against Wellington for Otago in the 2019/20 Plunket Shield, during which he was the tournament’s joint leading wicket-taker.

Kent’s next two County Championship matches are against Gloucestershire and Surrey, and he will be eligible for both. Jacob would look to make an impact in both the matches and help Kent to move up on the Points table.

Kent have had a rough start to the season, sitting ninth in the Championship’s 10-team premier division after six games, with four draws and two losses. Despite their status as defending champions, they have struggled in the Blast, with their first win coming against Middlesex in their sixth group encounter on Sunday.

Jacob Duffy, who has represented New Zealand in four T20Is against Bangladesh & Pakistan is yet to make a debut in the longest format. Although the experience of first-class with Otago and New Zealand A will give great help to the 27-year-old.

“It’s a great opportunity to play some first-class cricket,” Duffy said of joining Kent. “I’m looking forward to getting started with Kent.” “We are happy to be able to acquire Jacob’s services for our next two Championship matches,” Kent Director of Cricket Paul Downton stated.

“With Championship matches interspersed with the Vitality Blast, it’s a pretty busy time of year.” At this critical stage of our Championship campaign, Jacob will bolster our seam attack.”
