Latest Cricket News: Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns on Life Support

Latest Cricket News: Former New Zealand Cricket all-rounder Chris Cairns is on life support at a Canberra hospital after he collapsed with a health problem in Australia, New Zealand Media reported on Thursday.

Chris Cairns is 51 years old & have undergone curious operations after suffering from a heart problem but he didn’t respond to the treatment”, News hub reported as saying. The media agency also said that he suffered an aortic dissection in his heart in Canberra last week.

An aortic dissection is a tear in the body’s main artery, New Zealand’s Player’s union couldn’t provide immediate comment on Chris Cairns condition. New Zealand Cricket’s spokesperson said that the New Zealand board was respecting Cairn’s privacy in such a difficult situation & thus declined to give any update on his condition.

Shedding light on Chris Cairns’s gleaming career, he has played 62 Tests, 215 ODIs & two T20I matches for New Zealand during 1989-2006 before becoming a television commentator. He was one of the best all-rounders of his era especially in the T20I format of cricket.

The former all-rounder has amassed 3,320 test runs at an average of over 33 & took 218 wickets at an average of just over 29. In ODIs, he scored 4,950 runs at an average of 29.46 & scalped 201 wickets at an average of 32.80. He was also named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the year in 2000.

His father had represented the New Zealand National Cricket team. He is the son of New Zealand’s former all-rounder, Lance Cairns. Chris Cairns was also alleged of match-fixing in India as a captain of the Chandigarh Lions in the Indian Cricket League in the year 2008. However, Cairns denied any wrongdoings & fought several legal cases to clear his name from the matter.
