Moeen Ali Retirement: England all-rounder Moeen Ali will announce his retirement from test cricket to concentrate on white-ball cricket. Moeen Ali was a crucial part of England’s team that locked horns with India in the recently ended five-match test series. He was selected for the second test after missing out on a place in the squad for the first test.

Moeen Ali who has played 64 tests has decided to bid adieu to the longest format. He has come to his decision because he is uncomfortable with possible extended time away from home in the coming months as a likely member of both the T20 World Cup 2021 & Ashes Squad”, reported ESPNcricinfo.

Moeen Ali communicated his decision to quit test cricket to captain Joe Root and coach Chris Silverwood last week itself. Moeen Ali has decided to quit the format due to the strict quarantine rules in place for the upcoming Ashes test against their arch-rivals Australia. The all-rounder also wants to strengthen his feet in white-ball cricket & develop himself as a white-ball specialist. Ali want to concentrate fully on white-ball cricket as he believes that he could excel more in a shorter format of the game than test cricket.

England’s support staff still considers him as a vital part of the England squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Chris Silverwood & Joe Root expressed their gratitude for Moeen’s services for test cricket. Moeen Ali is one of the vital cogs of England’s test squad for the last seven years & have featured in 64 tests for the country.

Moeen Ali has been a regular player of England’s test squad until 2019 by often leading the team as the fifth bowling option or the second spinner. In the absence of all-rounders Like Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes, in the five-match test series against India, Ali had earned a recall for the second test against India.

He was also elected as the vice-captain of the team after Jos Buttler went on Paternity leave. Moeen Ali was on the cusp of achieving a remarkable landmark of registering 3000 runs & 200 wickets in tets cricket however due to the cancelation of the fifth test between India & England Moeen Ali fell 84 runs & five wickets short of completing the milestone.

A Glimpse of Moeen Ali’s Test Career:

Moeen Ali made his test debut against Sri Lanka at the Lord’s in 2014 & registered five centuries & five five-wicket hauls during his stint in tets cricket. He also registers a 10 wicket haul as well. Moeen Ali has ended his stint as England’s test player as the third most successful spinner behind Derek Underwood and Graeme Swann.

The left-handed batsman is currently in the UAE playing for CSK in the IPL 2021 season.
