With this win, Multan Sultans reserved their maiden spot in the final of the PSL 6. Islamabad will now lock horns with Peshawar Zalmi’s who is the winner of the second clash of the evening played against Karachi Kings.
Riding on the back of Sohaib Maqsood’s fourth half-century of the PSL 2021, Multan Sultans scored a decent target of 180 for 5 after choosing to bat first. After a steady start to their innings, Sultans eventually lost two wickets of Shan Masood & Rilee Roussouw to United’s Captain Shadab Khan in the eight over. Multan Sultans had lost their captain Rizwan for a duck in the second over of the innings. However, Maqsood’s blistering 63 runs stand with Johnson Charles brought Sultan’s innings back on track.
Khushdil Adil’s unbeaten 42 runs knock embellished with four successive sixes in the second last over off Akif Javed further strengthen Multan Sultans innings as 29 runs scored from the particular over helped Multan Sultans to bring up a sparkling target of 180 runs.
Chasing the Mammoth target of 180 runs, Usman Khwaja ferociously kept Islamabad United in the chase. The rest of their batting ordered faced an early collapse starting with the dismissal of Colin Munro who was dispersed on a second-ball duck. Sohail Tanvir, who removed Munro ran through Islamabad’s top order. A half-century stand for the sixth wicket off 28 balls between Khwaja & Hussain Talat revived Islamabad’s innings but couldn’t keep up the momentum as Khwaja was dismissed for 70 runs by Tanvir. Sohail Tanvir registered figures of 3 for 17. Muzarabani also registered a three-wicket haul to wrap up Islamabad United’s innings for 149 in 19 overs. With a glorious win over Islamabad United, Multan Sultans reserved their spot in the PSL 6 final.
