Mushfiqur Rahim set to miss West Indies Tour for performing Religious Pilgrimage

Bangladesh’s Experienced campaigner, Mushfiqur Rahim is all set to miss their upcoming tour of the West Indies for performing ‘Hajj’. According to reports, Mushfiqur has already informed the BCB about his unavailability as he plans to perform a religious pilgrimage (Hajj) during that period.

Bangladesh team’s director Khaled Mahmud confirmed the development, ”Yes, he (Mushfiqur) will be unavailable in the West Indies tour as he wishes to perform his Hajj,” Mahmud told Cricbuzz on Friday.

This will be a major setback for the Bangladesh team, especially in the Test format as they would be missing the services of their four key players- Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Nayeem Islam – due to their respective injuries.

Bangladesh Players Injury Update

Earlier on Friday, Naeem Hasan & Shoriful Islam sustained injuries that ruled them out of the Sri Lanka Test & made them doubtful for their upcoming West Indies tour as well. Naeem Hasan fractured the middle finger of his right hand while bowling during the Sri Lanka first Test. The injury ruled him out of action for the next four to five weeks eventually ruling him out of the West Indies tour as well.

Similarly, Shoriful Islam also suffered a fracture on his right hand which makes him unavailable for the West Indies tour. Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed who is undergoing conservative treatment for his shoulder injury in London is likely to miss the West Indies tour.

The one positive for Bangladesh’s injury-prone squad is the chances of Mehidy Hasan returning to the Test squad for the West Indies Series. According to the reports, Mehidy Hasan is recovering well from his injury & is likely to be available for their West Indies tour.

Bangladesh is expected to leave Dhaka on June 6 for the West Indies tour comprising two Tests along with three ODIs and T20Is each. As per the schedule, Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies will commence with their opening Test which will be played at Antigua from June 16-20 while the second Test will be played in St Lucia from June 24-28.

The opening two T20Is will be played in Dominica respectively on July 2 and 3 while the third will be played in Guyana on July 7. The tour will end with the three-match ODI series which will be played in Guyana on July 10, 13, and 16.
