PAK vs SL 2022: Pakistan team’s Masseur, Malang Ali tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival in Colombo. He will now have to undergo a mandatory five days of isolation & would be able to join the team only after clearing the Rapid Antigen Test on day five of his isolation period.
In past, Pakistan hadn’t replaced a masseur on their away tours. If in case Malang couldn’t recover on time for the opening Test commencing on July 16, then the team management will have to hire a masseur from Sri Lanka in a makeshift arrangement.
Meanwhile, the touring Pakistan team has already landed in Sri Lanka on Wednesday evening where they will lock horns with Pakistan in a two-match Test series to be played in Galle & Colombo. The Touring Pakistan team consists of 18 players & 13 support staff members. Including one masseur. Pakistan will field almost the same squad that locked horns with Australia in three-match Test series in March. Shan Masood, Azhar Ali, and Yasir Shah received a call-up to the Test squad. They had last featured in Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2015 which Pakistan won by a 2-1 score.
Sri Lanka is currently locking horns with Australia in a two-match Test series, with the second Test slated to begin on Friday. Sri Lanka is reeling from an increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases within the team. Dhananjaya de Silva, Asitha Fernando, and Jeffrey Vandersay all have been ruled out of the game after testing positive for COVID-19 on the eve of the second Test. Angelo Matthews & left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama were earlier tested positive for COVID-19. However, Angelo Matthews has recovered from COVID-19 & is available for selection for the secodn Test
Pakistan will be training in Colombo from Friday onwards and will play a three-day practice match in the city from July 11 to 13 before the opening Test in Galle. The first Test of the series will be played from July 16 to 20 at Galle International Stadium while the secodn Test will be played from July 24-28 at Colombo International Stadium.
