PAK W vs SL W: Pakistan registers last ball win to sweep the series 3-0

PAK W vs SL W: Pakistan won the T20I series 3-0 over Sri Lanka, with a four-wicket win in the third match in Karachi. Although it came down to the final delivery, the outcome was the same as in the previous two games.

Sri Lanka’s effort was ruined by an incredible middle-order collapse, in which they lost seven wickets for 14 runs. Here five of the wickets fell to run-outs, in a low-scoring encounter.

Sri Lanka took the bat in hand as soon as they won the toss. But this time the opening batters hung around. Throughout the early part of the innings, Chamari Athapaththu and Hasini Perera were more proactive, sweeping frequently and effectively against the spinners. Pakistan’s bowlers had to be rotated regularly but Sri Lanka kept turning the strike over and finding regular boundaries.

It took until the 12th over, after 69 runs had been scored, for a wicket to fall. Sri Lanka went from 69 for 0 to 83 for 7 in 34 balls, squandering all of the momentum they had built up. It was a fifth of the innings when Sugandika Kumari was run out off the final ball of the session, and Sri Lanka reached 107.

Pakistan, after making a few amendments, started with Iram Javed. The Pakistan hitters were then worn down by Sri Lanka’s spinners. Kumari removed Iram after she attempted a risky lap shot, while Oshadi Ranasinghe, who returned with three wickets for 18 runs in her innings, started by dismissing Omaima Sohail. Muneeba Ali, the other opener, went on to score 25 runs off 33 deliveries. Pakistan Women managed to score just 45 in their first ten overs & from that point the visitors had an edge.

With eight runs needed in the last over, the game had developed into an unpleasant, gritty battle for supremacy between the two teams. Pakistan needed four runs in two balls. It came down to two off one, and just as the game appeared to be heading for a draw, Sri Lanka lost their nerves. When a run-out appeared to be on the cards, Dilhari fumbled, and Pakistan scored their second run, sparking wild jubilation.
