Sourav Ganguly was appointed as BCCI’s 39th president last October while Rahul Dravid was elected as the head of the NCA in July last year & their partnership is of great significance for Indian Cricket.
Just like their partnerships which were very important in helping India hail numerous wins over the years, VVS Laxman feels Ganguly & Rahul Dravid’s current roles promise to go a long way in ensuring the safe & bright future of the Indian Cricket.
“It is great, the partnership between BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly and National Cricket Academy (NCA) head Rahul Dravid. If the Indian team wants to be successful in every format, then this partnership is of utmost importance. I think everyone is important, the team captain, NCA head and BCCI President,” Laxman said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.
In last year December Ganguly had visited NCA & held lots of discussions with Rahul Dravid insisting that the former India Under-19 coach would be assigned a bigger role. This was after the reports of rift between Dravid & Bumrah started doing rounds on Internet. Dravid was quite miffed with Bumrah & refused to conduct his mandatory fitness test that would have allowed Bumrah to make a comeback to the national team.
Bumrah had his own team of trainers & specialists when he was recovering. To this Ganguly said that every cricketer will have to go through the NCA to prove their fitness making it an essential practice. “There’s huge hope from Rahul. He’s been a tremendous player. You will get perfection and commitment. We will sort it out. We have given Dravid the charge at the NCA to get it more organised. Ultimately, we will extend his role. I’ve spoken to him and the office-bearers. You will get to know the details in a week’s time,” Ganguly had said last December.
