Ramiz Raja proposes the idea of a four nation T20 Super Series

Ramiz Raja has proposed a four-nation T20 Super Series among India, Pakistan, England & Australia. The idea behind Ramiz Raja’s proposal is to conduct a T20 Super Series to generate revenues that could be shared not only among the four boards but by the cricket boards affiliated to the International Cricket Council (ICC). He even proposed raising an Ltd company at the ICC with a dedicated staff and a Chief Executive Officer for the purpose

“We have got to break the barriers for the sake of the game and the fans,” Raja, the former Pakistan captain and currently the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

The four gigantic teams like India, Australia, and England already have busy schedules & it won’t be easy for them to find a window for this T20 Super Series. But Ramiz Raja claimed that it would be a matter of shame if such big teams couldn’t find a window for such an event. “If you can’t find a window for this, then cricket is doomed, sorry,” he declared.

Ramiz Raja also said that he is proposing a new Ltd company at the ICC to run this four-nation T20 Super Series with a CEO. Talking about the plan of a new administrative structure Ramiz Raja said, “I am proposing a new Ltd company at the ICC to run the four-nation Super Series with a dedicated CEO. There has to be a new structure for the pooling and sharing of income,” he said explaining his brainchild. “The financials/money can be divided in a staggering percentage way amongst the ICC Boards. For this, we have to create an FTP window for it.”

“It could be a financial and viewing bonanza as there would be numerous little battles like Pakistan-India and Ashes rivalry (England-Australia) within such a competition. It would be a great comeback of sorts for countries competition (international cricket) as a challenge of franchise cricket mounts,” he analyzed.

When Ramiz Raja was asked about the initial response to his idea, the PCB chairman said that he will propose the idea to the board this week & note their reaction.” I am still to float it (the idea) officially, I might do so by the end of the week,” he revealed.

The biggest challenge in the implementation of this idea will be the clauses in the Members Participation Agreement (MPA) of the ICC, which are believed to be very strict to such concepts.

A four-board joint T20 cricket series is not an impossible concept but it hasn’t been applied to International cricket yet. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia (CA), and Cricket South Africa (CSA) had created Champions League T20 but it was primarily among the domestic franchises of different countries and it ran from 2009 to 2014.
