India made a drastic change in its batting line-up as they dropped KL Rahul in the 5th & final T20I against England to include in-form bowler T Natarajan in their line-up.
Captain Virat Kohli moved up on the batting order to open the innings along with Vice-Captain Rohit Sharma & the pairing give India a stupendous start. Their 94 runs partnership in nine overs helped India to put a mammoth total with Rohit Sharma taking the role of aggressive hitter scoring 64 off 34 balls. It was his 22nd T20I fifty & put India into a strong position in the series decider.
The Captain & Vice-Captain’s blistering opening partnership impressed experts & fans on social media. “Can’t be a better opening combo on the eye than @imVkohli & @ImRo45 !!! Could easily match @virendersehwag & @sachin_rt if they stick with this combo,” wrote former England captain Michael Vaughan.
Former India batsmen Wasim Jaffer & Virender Sehwag had perfect memes in store for this occasion.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Two worlds finest white-ball player opening” wrote one user.
Another user described them as “Brothers of Destruction”, referring to WWE stars Undertaker and Kane. Rohit Sharma dominated the partnership as Kohli dropped anchor. He smashed five sixes & four boundaries in his 34 ball knock as he destroyed England’s bowling attack. Rohit hit Adil Rashid for a six over midwicket & started his on-slaught with the bat before hitting two brilliant straight drives off Mark Wood’s bowling.
Once Rohit got out, Kohli accelerated his game & quickly reached his 28th T20I half-century scored in 36 balls. It was Kohli’s third of the series as he consolidated his position as the highest run-scorer in the five-match contest.
