Riding on the back of Yashvi Jaiswal’s scintillating fifty along with Chahal’s three-wicket haul, RR outclassed Punjab Kings by six wickets on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium.

Punjab Kings classy show with the bat guided them to a decent 189 runs

Batting first Punjab Kings posted a decent 189 runs on board. Their openers guided Kings to a stunning start with Jonny Bairstow & Shikhar Dhawan stitching a 47-run stand. After facing a prolonged lean patch Bairstow finally brought up his half-century in 34 balls smashing seven fours & a six. However, Bairstow-Dhawan’s blooming stand was soon broken with Ashwin dismissing Shikhar for 12 runs off 16 balls. At the end of the powerplay overs, PBKS were reeling at 48-1. Then came Bhanuka Rajapaksa (27 off 18 balls) on crease who joined hands with Bairstow to stitch a strong 42-run stand. But soon Chahal struck to remove Rajapaksa in the 11th over to reduce PBKS to 89-2.

Rajapaksa’s dismissal brought Mayank Agarwal on teh crease. He played some lusty shots at the beginning & made things look easier for Punjab Kings. But soon Chahal did his magic & sent Agarwal back to the hut for just 15 runs. However, Bairstow on the other side was heading strong by smashing maximums & boundaries. Soon his gutsy knock finally came to an end with Chahal dismissing Bairstow for 56 off 40 balls in an innings laced with eight boundaries & a six.

Later, Jitesh Sharma amassed an unbeaten 38 off 18 balls & Liam Livingstone returned with 22 off 15 balls to guide Kings to a respectable 189 in 20 overs. For RR Yuzvedra Chahal starred with the ball by scalping 3 wickets and conceding 28 runs.

Yashvi Jaiswal’s blistering 68-run knock laid the foundation for RR’s Stellar Victory

In pursuit of 190 runs total, Rajasthan Royals made a stunning start with Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal weaving a 46-run stand. However, their stand couldn’t flourish further as Buttler got dismissed by Rajapaksa for 14 runs. Then captain skipper Sanju Samson came on the crease and upped RR’s innings by scoring 23 runs off 12 balls. Sanju joined hands with Yashvi Jaiswal & together they stitched a valuable stand anchoring RR’s innings. Soon, Samson was sent packing off Rishi Dhawan’s delivery in the 9th over reducing RR to 85-2.

But Samson’s dismissal didn’t affect Jaiswal on the other end who was heading strong with the bat. He joined hands with Devudutt Padikkal (31) & weaved a stellar 56 runs stand for the third wicket. But soon RR’s star batter Jaiswal was sent back to the pavilion off Livingstone’s delivery in the 15th over after scoring 68 runs off 41 balls. His innings was studded with nine boundaries and two sixes. Hetmyer then joined Padikkal on the crease & the duo stitched 41 run-stand to bring the equation to 11 runs off 12 balls.

However, in the 19th over RR suffered a setback with Rahul Chahar dismissing Padikkal for 31 off 32 balls. But this doesn’t reduce the strong intent of Hetmyer on the other end who took RR over the line with two balls to spare. Hetmyer stayed unbeaten on 31 off 16 balls. For Punjab Kings Arshdeep starred with the bowl by scalping 2 wickets for 29 runs. The win powered RR to the third position on the Points table with seven wins in their kitty.
