Just a day after Lance Klusener announced his decision to not extend his contract as a Head Coach of the Afghanistan National Team, Afghanistan’s fast bowling consultant Shaun Tait has resigned from his role. Unlike Klusener who will serve his contract which will expire at the end of this year, Tait has resigned from his post with immediate effect.
In a short statement, Tait said, “I have enjoyed my time working with the team especially with the young Afghan fast bowlers whom I personally think have a great future. Having access to a great cricketing mind like Lance Klusener (head coach of Afghanistan during my tenure) has been an absolute pleasure.”
Shaun Tait who is a level 2 certified coach from Cricket Australia was signed up by the Afghanistan Cricket Board as a fast bowling consultant in August this year for a period of just five months. His contract will end by the end of December 31 & he has opted to not extend his contract further.
Just a day after Klusener announced his decision, Shaun Tait decided to step down from his role of bowling coach. He has also signed a deal with Indian domestic side Puducherry as their bowling coach saying that he will be with the team based on availability from my commitments with the Afghanistan team”.
Afghanistan has displayed a decent performance under the guidance of Lance Klusener by winning one out of three tests, three out of the six ODIs, and nine out of 14 T20Is. During Tait’s associated with the team, Afghanistan played international fixtures only during T20 World cup 2021 where they lost to South Africa and beat West Indies in warm-up fixtures before winning just two out of their five games in the main competition to get knocked out in the group stage.
