Sourav Ganguly scored a century on this day back in 1996 on his Test Debut. He achieved the feat against England on the third day of the second Test match being played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

It was on June 22 in the year 1996 when Former Indian Skipper Sourav Ganguly scored a century on his Test debut. He achieved the feat against England on the third day of the second Test match being played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. England has bundled at 344 runs in the first innings as Venkatesh Prasad grabbed five wickets for the visitors. Ganguly then came out to bat at the number three position & he went on to score 131 runs from 301 balls with the help of 20 boundaries. The left-handed batsman was involved in a 94 run partnership with Rahul Dravid for the sixth wicket.

Ganguly finally got out at Alan Mullaly bowl & India was left at 296 runs at 6 wickets. It was also the Test debut of epic batsman Rahul Dravid however Dravid missed out on a century after he got dismissed at 95 runs. India was all out at 429 runs with a leading 85 runs over the hosts England. England managed to hang on and the side registered 278/9 in the second innings as the match ended in a draw.

In all these years, Ganguly went ahead to become a one of the most successful Indian Skippers. Under his leadership India defeated Pakistan in its home land for the first time in a Test series. He also led India to the finals of the 2003 Cricket World Cup. Ganguly in all played 113 Tests & 311 ODIs.

The left handed batsman scored a whopping 18,575 runs across all he formats in International career. In October 2019 Ganguly became the president of the BCCI.
