Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Bangladesh & Sri Lanka will lock horns in match 15 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Both the teams have displayed stupendous performance in the Round 1 fixtures of the T20 World Cup 2021.
Sri Lanka topped Group A in the Qualifying stage after winning all three matches of the Round 1 fixtures. However, their batting line-up is a concern for them heading into the main Super 12s stage of the T20 World Cup 2021. Kusal Perera returned back to form in their last match of the Round 1 stage by scoring an unbeaten 33 runs knock. But the other three batsmen of their top order lacks consistency which is a major concern for them.
Sri Lanka’s bowling attack looks quite stable & lethal with star spinners like Maheesh Theekshana & Wanindu Hasaranga in their bowling department. The mystery spinner Theekshana has provided many breakthroughs to Sri Lanka on a consistent basis. He is currently Sri Lanka’s highest wicket-taker with 8 wickets to his name in 3 matches at an average of 5.62. On the other hand, Hasaranga has been quite brilliant with the ball. In the last game against the Netherlands, Hasaranga claimed three wickets for just 9 runs in his four overs. Overall, he has 6 wickets in 3 matches played in the Qualifier stage. Besides, pacers have also done an exemplary job for Sri Lanka & helped the side to qualify for the Super 12s stage.
On the other hand, Bangladesh began its T20 World Cup 2021 campaign by facing a defeat in front of Scotland. However, they bounced back strongly by winning their next two matches against Oman & Papua New Guinea.
In their last match against Papua New Guinea, Shakib Al-Hasan, once again, starred with the ball & bat. Batting first Bangladesh scored 46 off 37 balls including three fours. Mahmudullah also played an outstanding knock of 50 runs off just 28 balls to help his team post a formidable 181-run total.
Shakib-Al-Hasan ripped PNG’s middle-order & was left reeling at 29 for 7. The former Bangladesh skipper finished his figures with 9 for 4 in 4 overs. Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed picked two wickets each, while Mahedi Hasan returned with figures of 1 for 20 in 4 overs.
Just like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka too has a strong bowling department. The destiny of the match will depend on which team bats well on the slow track of Sharjah. Looking at the strength of the batting teams we could expect a thrilling contest today at the grounds of Sharjah.
