T20 World Cup 2021, NZ vs PAK: Lockie Ferguson ruled out with a calf injury, Adam Milne named as a Replacement

NZ vs PAK, Live Updates: New Zealand suffered a major blow ahead of their tournament-opening match against Pakistan as their star pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2021 with a grade two tear in his calf. The pacer will stay out of action for a period of three to four weeks due to his calf injury.

In an Official Release shared by the Black Caps on their official social media handles, their Head Coach Gary Stead pointed out the huge loss their side has suffered due to the unavailability of their talented pacer in the opening clash against Pakistan. He admitted that Lockie’s injury is a major blow for the team considering his splendid form.

Here’s what he said, “It’s a real shame for Lockie to have this happen on the eve of the tournament and the entire team is really feeling for him right now. He’s a massive part of our T20 side and has been in such good form – so to lose him at this time is a blow.”

Adam Milne will replace Lockie Ferguson in New Zealand’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 after they receive approval from the ICC’s Technical Committee. Lockie Ferguson displaced some brilliant performances as a part of KKR’s squad during the recently ended IPL 2021. Lockie scalped 13 wickets for KKR in eight matches and had an impressive economy rate of 7.46.

NZ vs PAK, Live Updates: Pakistan won the toss & opted to field first in today’s clash

New Zealand has come into a face-off with Pakistan in their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2021. Meanwhile, Pakistan won the toss & opted to field first. They didn’t make any change to the playing XI that defeated India by 10 wickets.

Speaking after winning the toss, Pakistan captain Babar Azam said:

“Hopefully we can take early wickets and restrict them to a low score. Dew is also a factor. Winning always gives confidence, especially when it comes to the first game of the tournament. Boys are keen to maintain the performance today as well.”

Pakistan will be aiming to carry forward their winning momentum into this clash while a victory in the first match of the tournament against an in-form Pakistan’s team will act as a confidence booster for the New Zealand clash.
