Rajinder Goel was a legendary cricketer who took 750 first class wickets from 157 games while representing Haryana & North Zone in domestic cricket.
The Indian Cricket fraternity led by the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly condoled the death of Rajinder Goel. The former Indian Captain said that the outstanding record of Rajinder Goel in domestic cricket tells everything about his talent in cricket. Rajinder Goeal died at the age of 77 due to age related health issues on Sunday. “The Indian cricketing community has lost a giant of domestic cricket today. His staggering record tells you about his craft and the control he had over it. To have a career that lasts more than 25 years and still be able to perform consistently speaks about his dedication and commitment towards the game,” Ganguly said in an official media release of the BCCI.
Indian Cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Ravinchandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan & Virender Sehwag also paid tribute to the evergreen cricketer Rajinder Goel. Sachin Tendulkar tweeted,
Saddened to hear about the passing away of Rajinder Goel ji! He was a stalwart of Indian Domestic Cricket picking up more than 600 wickets in the Ranji Trophy. May his soul Rest in Peace and my heartfelt condolences to his near and dear ones. Indian Captain Virat Kohli expressed is sorrow by saying, “We’ve lost a legend in Rajinder Goel Ji. Him being the highest wicket-taker in the history of Ranji Trophy, speaks volumes about the career he had. Wishing all the strength to his family and loved ones.”
Ashwin said that the domestic cricket had left a legacy that will last forever. “The highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy cricket Rajinder Goel passes away, all I heard growing up was “what a fine left-arm spinner Rajinder Goel was” I have not seen you bowl sir, but you have left a legacy that will last forever. RIP Rajinder Goel,” Ashwin tweeted. “To be able to pick 750 wickets needs years and years of hard work and I salute his efforts. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family,” he added.
Current Coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri tweeted, “RIP #RajinderGoel ji. Master of his craft. Killer line & length in our terrain. Humility personified. Condolences to the entire family.”
While Suresh Raina said that Rajinder Goel’s contribution to domestic cricket was unbeatable & unmatchable. Sehwag went ahead to call him “a simple & humble man”.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones”.
The left arm spinner Goel has played about 157 first class matches most of them for Haryana & finished with whopping 750 wickets. He holds the record for most wickets taken in Ranji Trophy as he grabbed 637 runs as compared to 107 runs more than S Venkataraghavan who is second on the list. Goel has made his debut in the 1957-1958 season & went onto play domestic cricket until the age of 44. Despite of playing so well for the domestic cricket Goel has never played for the national side. In 2017 the bCCI honoured Goel with the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.
