Tim Macdonald to part ways with England after Commonwealth Games

Tim Macdonald will leave his position as England Women’s team Senior Assistant Coach after the Commonwealth games to work as an assistant coach with the Perth Scorchers and Western Australian men’s teams.

Macdonald represented Western Australia and Tasmania in first-class cricket. His family has continued to stay in Australia since August 2020, when he was hired as a full-time assistant to Lisa Keightley, with whom he previously worked at Perth Scorchers and Western Fury. During the T20 World Cup in Australia earlier that year, MacDonald had initially joined the England Women’s team on an interim basis.

After the Commonwealth Games in August, MacDonald will return home to take up the position of Senior Assistant Coach – Bowling for the BBL and State tournaments.

Macdonald remarked, “I’ve cherished every minute of working with such a fantastic group of players and staff.” “I’ve gained a lot of knowledge and made some lifelong friends, but I couldn’t pass up this incredible opportunity to return to Perth and be closer to my family.”

“The stars have aligned for me, and I’m ecstatic to be returning home to my new role with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers, and I can’t wait to get started on our quest for Commonwealth Games gold.” He added.

During the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022, England Women defeated South Africa Women in the second semi-finals by whopping 137 runs to reach the summit clash of the marquee event.

However, England Women couldn’t win the title as they suffered a 71-runs defeat at the hands of Australia Women in the Summit clash making them the runner-up in the marquee event.

“Tim has played a significant role in continuing to enhance the England Women’s side over the previous two years, and will continue to do so as we prepare for the summer match program,” said Jonathan Finch, Director of England Women’s Cricket.
