Major changes in the leadership roles within the Indian team have created a mess at the moment. On Tuesday reports of Virat Kohli missing the ODI series against South Africa were doing round on social media. However, a senior BCCI official has said that the prolific cricketer is available for the ODI series.
Since the change in the captaincy roles of white-ball cricket in the Indian cricket team, the news of rifts between Kohli & Rohit Sharma started surfacing on the internet. Even there were reports that Virat Kohli is taking a break from South Africa ODI series which was confirmed by the BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal.
“To my knowledge, even before any captaincy call was taken, Virat wanted to take a break from the SA ODIs,” said Dhumal.
However, a report in Cricbuzz has quoted another top BCCI Official saying, “There is no truth in reports of Virat skipping the ODIs. He is a totally committed cricketer and there is no doubt about his participation.”
There is great confusion regarding the participation of Virat Kohli in the upcoming SA ODI series & to clear the air on the speculations, Virat Kohli will address the media today at 1 pm IST. The BCCI has scheduled a press conference before the Indian team leaves for the South Africa tour. India’s Test captain Virat Kohli will himself speak to media where the questions over his participation in the ODI series will be addressed as well as BCCI’s decision to hand over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma will also be discussed.
Rohit Sharma’s participation in the ODI series is doubtful
Earlier it was reported that Rohit Sharma has suffered a hamstring injury & will be fine to participate in the ODI Series in South Africa in three weeks’ time. However, the status of his injury is not clear yet. As per the reports, Rohit Sharma is monitored by the physios & a decision over his participation in the limited-overs series will be taken after the Vijay Hazare Trophy final.
Rohit Sharma has hurt his hamstring during a training session in Mumbai & his injury has ruled him out of the three-match test series which starts on December 26. The Vijay Hazare Trophy final will be held on December 26, post which the BCCI will announce the ODI squad. Whether Rohit Sharma could make it to the squad or not will depend on the condition of his injury.
